Activist Boniface Mwangi has been released without charges after spending a night behind bars. He was arrested from his home yesterday, after advocating for peaceful anti-government protests in connection with the Standard Chartered Marathon.
He had called on citizens to wear Kenyan flag colors and carry signs urging President William Ruto to step down, intending to highlight economic grievances.
Prior to his release, influential figures, including Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, had visited him in custody at the Kamukunji Police Station, expressing concerns about freedom of speech and urging for his immediate release without bail restrictions. His call for protest aligns with democratic freedoms in Kenya.
