Lawyer Apollo Mboya sues Standard Media Group and activist Jerotich Seii for alleged defamation on social media

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) CEO and Advocate Apollo Mboya has sued Standard Media Group and Jerotich Seii for allegedly posting defamatory statements against him on social media.

According to the court documents presented by Mr Mboya, the media company and activists, with substantial followers on social media, through their twitter handles @spiceFMKE and @JerotichSeii and other social media platforms published tweets concerning him and other judicial officers which were baseless, unsubstantiated, unsupported, therefore defamatory.

He says that the tweets and broadcast of the defendants have been viewed by thousands and elicited numerous comments that have further aggravated the defamation. He claims that the defendants have failed to apologize and withdraw the defamatory tweets and broadcast which ahs made him suffer substantial damage to his reputation.

In his notice of motion,  Mr Mboya requested his petition to be heard urgently. Further, he wants the court to issue an injunction to restrain the Jerotich Seii and Standard Media Group from further publishing in any of their social media handles, television or any other media platform, any statements and videos, defamatory or otherwise concerning him or any judicial officer.

He also wants the defendants to pull down all impugned publications and videos in their twitter handles and any other media platform making reference to him, and the cost of the application be borne by the defendant.
