Bomet based detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspect for publishing alarming information warning of an alleged terror plot on Facebook.
In a statement on the DCI twitter account Timothy Koech, alias Joseph Langat, was arrested at Chepngaina village in Bomet County for posting that members of a terror group were planning to attack an institution of higher learning.

The DCI further said that the man will be investigated over the offence of a hoax, which he contravened according, to Section 26 and Section 30 of Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Section 26 says that “a person who issues any information that a terrorist act has been, or is likely to be committed, knowing that the information is false, commits an offence and is liable, on conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 20 years”.
Section 30, states that: “A person who knowingly possesses an article or any information held on behalf of a person for the use in instigating the commission of, preparing to commit or committing a terrorist act commits an offence, and is liable, on conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 20 years.”
