Paul Odhiambo arrested for ‘publishing inflammatory messages’ on Facebook

Paul Odhiambo, aka Amemba, a Facebook commentator has been arrested in Busia for allegedly publishing inflammatory messages on the platform.

According to an article published in the Daily Nation, Mr. Odhiambo was arrested yesterday evening and was locked up at the Busia Police Station for questioning. In the story, Busia OCPD Masai Makau said Paul Odhiambo confirmed the arrest.

“We have him in custody and our detectives are in possession of his phones to help us with investigations over some posts aimed at propagating animosity between some communities in Busia.”

He said the arrest followed complaints from the public, who accused him of spreading hatred through his Facebook page and on WhatsApp.

Mr Odhiambo often posts comments on local politics on his Facebook page.

In the recent days, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) have been vocal in urging Kenyans not to incite each other. NCIC vice-chairperson Irene Wanyoike stated that Kenyans must desist from ethnic hate and profiling, tone down political intolerance and embrace diverse political views.
