In a new turn of events, police are seeking to arrest activist Boniface Mwangi and protestors Robert Otieno, Albert Wambugu, Pablo Chacha, and Erot Franco for 21 days to conclude investigations.
This includes ascertaining the source and intent of carrying the white coffin and other items they had during yesterday’s demonstrations to honor the fallen heroes. According to the police, The group faces charges of “false publication” under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act, “unlawful assembly,” and “incitement.”
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) claims they cannot ascertain the suspects’ residences, complicating their investigations hence the 21 day detention.
The DCI argues that the additional time is necessary to gather evidence, verify the suspects’ residences, and conduct interviews to help them with investigations.
According to the charge sheet, the arrests were unlawful as there were no any legal permissions. Another claim is that their actions or speeches provoked public disorder and the placards were labeled with inciteful words. here is are the details of the charge sheet.
