Vlogger Edgar Obare, was today charged with unlawfully publishing private and personal details from the passport of a local renowned YouTuber, Natalie Wanjiri Githinji alias Natalie Tewa.
According to his charge sheet, “On diverse dates between July 9 and July 13, 2020, at an unknown place, within the Republic of Kenya, using your social media accounts, domain name www.bnn.ke and verified Instagram account @edgarobare, unlawfully disclosed to your online followers, personal data to wit visa belonging to one Natalie Wanjiru Githinji without her consent.”
Edgar has charged under Section 72 of the Data Protection Act. If found guilty, he shall be liable to a fine not exceeding Sh3 million or to an imprisonment term not exceeding 10 years, or both. The vlogger, who was arraigned at the Kiambu Law Courts today, and represented by his lawyer Titus Munene Kinyua pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Edgar had earlier stirred debate online, claiming that Blogger Natalie Tewa had accompanied Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed on their trip to Dubai. The duo had travelled to Dubai to check on former PM Raila Odinga who was in the hospital after undergoing an operation.
Obare has since been released on a Ksh 100,000 cash bail.
