The police plan to arrest Cyprian Nyakundi for allegedly failing to attend court session

Cyprian Nyakundi is wanted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) regional office in Nairobi after he allegedly failed to attend his court hearing as expected.

The warrant, issued by the Chief Magistrate’s court in Milimani, follows a case where Mr Nyakundi had been charged with alleged publication of false information. He had been charged under section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.

Cyprian Nyakundi is accused of allegedly posting information on his Twitter account about the KRA Commissioner General James Mburu knowing it was false and purported to injure Mr. Mburu’s reputation as a person. Insert post
Nyakundi has defended himself asking how a warrant was issued against him, yet he had never been processed to appear at the Milimani Law Courts. According to him, the matter that he is accused of commenting on is currently active at the Kibera Law courts and the necessary procedure was followed.

Some Kenyans on Twitter have expressed concerns over his arrest using the hashtag #DCIODPPHandsOffNyakundi, saying that the authorities want to silence him for telling the truth.

The DCI has, however, insisted that he should present himself at the nearest Police station immediately.
