Wanyama Sues Menengai Oil For Using his Image Without Consent

Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has sued to Menengai Oil Refineries Limited for contravening his image and personality rights. The company was taken to Milimani Law Courts, Nairobi for allegedly tweeting using his image, without his consent.

The Wanyama, who is also the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, complained that the tweet pretended to wish Harambee stars well in 2019 concluded African Cup of Nations Championship, but in fact, was meant to promote the company’s business.

He emphasized that if the message was meant for the whole team, photo comprising the entire team could have been used. Wanyama, therefore, wants a court declaration that the actions of Menengai Oil to use his image without his consent has contravened his image and personality rights.

He also wants the court to declare that the image published by Menengai Oil Refineries Limited constitutes a marketing advertisement and that he is entitled to damages from Menengai Oil.
