Kenya’s Mobile Network Operators sign the Kenya Child Online Protection Industry Charter

GSMA in collaboration with Kenya’s Mobile Network Operators have today launched the We Care Campaign, focusing on online child safety and protection. This is the first in Africa and second in the world after the Latin America launch.

The Kenyan Telcos involved are Safaricom, Telkom Kenya, Jamii Telecom and Airtel Kenya.

At the launch of the campaign, the Telcos signed the Kenya Child Online Protection Industry Charter, promising to focus on child online safety protection and responsible use of the internet via educational and awareness programmes, integrating children’s rights considerations into corporate policies and management processes, and supporting government, law enforcement agencies, civil society and other stakeholders to tackle online abuse of children.

Measures will include providing capacity-building workshops for authorities tasked with enabling a support hotline for young citizens seeking information or emergency assistance on online safety matters.
